Health Information Management (also known as HIM) is information management applied to health and health care industry. It is the practice of acquiring, analyzing and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. As a vital member of the health care team, the health information manager is responsible for managing health information systems. This professional plans and develops health information systems that meet standards of accrediting and regulatory agencies. They also design health information systems appropriate for various sizes and types of health care facilities.

As a Southern Technical College graduate of our Health Information Management program, you’ll be able to perform tasks today’s employers need. Upon completion of the Health Information Management program, you can be ready for a career in hospitals, ambulatory care settings, insurance offices and attorneys’ offices. You’ll also receive quality instruction in advanced virtual lab technology, and you’ll be required to take specialized courses like ICD-10-CM coding and hospital coding.
