Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Graduates of the M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program leave prepared to provide high-quality mental health services to a diverse population, in a variety of community settings. This 60 credit hour counselor education-training program covers topics including theories, research, ethics, evaluation, diagnosis, career assessment, and counseling interventions. It also incorporates the thirteen content areas required by the State of Illinois for licensure, and the eight content areas outlined by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) to prepare those students seeking professional counselor licensure. Supervised clinical training provides the students of the Chicago School’s M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with opportunities to put theory into practice in real-world settings. This unique experience allows students to gain the confidence necessary to counsel individuals, families, couples and groups, and help them work through a wide variety of mental health and emotional issues including:

  • Depression and suicidal impulses
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem
  • Stress
